While we continue to offer concierge personal shopping via messenger or email, we have also been busy behind the scenes working on making online ordering (for curbside pick up) easier for you. The new site, https://shopgeeklife.square.site/ should be easier to navigate and find what you are looking for. In addition to having our great family games & puzzles front and center, fans of table top role playing games can now browse our entire miniatures stock online to find the perfect new addition to your game, as well as find what you need from our line of hobby-store exclusive-cover RPG books. Meanwhile Magic: The Gathering players can more easily both see our in-stock sealed product and lock in your preorder for the next set.
It has now been six months since since Covid-19 started changing the world and forced us to cancel all events at GeekLife for the health and safety of our community.
The fact that is is spread the easiest through gathering in close proximity for extended periods of time, in a poorly ventilated space, we could not risk the health of our community or our family.
At the beginning of the summer, we were preparing to resume in-person sales, but then we saw that our community spread was too high to safely consider doing so. Since then, it has remained high and we have remained open for curbside pick up only. But, we have been able to make it work because of you.
So as a thank you to our community that has got us this far, we are hosting a sidewalk sale Saturday & Sunday, September 26 & 27 from 10am – 6pm.
We will have hundreds of books, toys, games and more all marked down up to 60% off.* 100s of back issue comics.* 100s of graphic novels, comics and books of all genres and all age ranges.* Plus! Statues, toys and games will also be on sale.
Magic The Gathering, D&D, Pokémon and select board games will not be discounted, but you are welcome to purchase these items during the sale.
We have missed all of our D&D and other role playing game adventurers, Pokémon trainers, and Magic: The Gathering planeswalkers. These events have been the lifeblood of our community for the past five years. And it is because of this amazing community that we have been able to continue during this life-altering experience. We are planning a reunion party that will be held just as soon as it is safe to do so, and I can’t wait to see you all there.
As many of you know, GeekLife is owned and operated by a mom. As families across the city and state make decisions for the upcoming school year, our family is no different.
Due to multiple factors, not the least of which is my son’s asthma, we have decided to opt for virtual/distance schooling for the year.
What this means for the store is a slight change to our curbside pick up hours.
Moving forward, we will continue to offer 24/7 online shopping at www.ShopGeekLife.com, personal recommendations via messenger and email, and contactless, curbside pickup.
In an effort to provide more flexibility to our customers, starting today we now offer pick up by appointment. Simply message the store or email INFO @ ShopGeekLife . com and we will be happy to coordinate a time that works for your schedule. Additionally, our standard pick up hours are now 1pm-7pm on Fridays.
We miss each of you and look forward to bringing the community back together as soon as it is safe to do so.
We are now open daily during the week for curbside pickup!
Thank YOU for your support as we adapt to bringing the fun to your home while ensuring the health & safety of our community.
We look forward to hosting events again, as soon as it is safe to do so.
To best do our part to encourage social distancing, we are suspending all organized play through the end of March.
We will reassess at the end of the month.
In short, our play space is closed for now.
We will still have retail sales available and encourage you to shop online for pick up and if you call, we’ll bring it out to you and are happy to place it in your trunk if you wish.
This cancellation includes all in-store play:
Independently Organized RPG
Saturday Commander MeetUp
Family Fun Day
I will be honest with you, events are a major part of our business model and we are not sure how this will affect the long-term success of the store.
We have spent the better part of the last five years building an amazing, unapologetically inclusive community. My wish is to see it continue to grow and thrive. But the only way to do that is to ensure the safety of the most vulnerable among us by making sacrifices now.
If you have the means and are looking for something fun to do while staying in more, please consider buying a game, book or comic. If you would like a recommendation on something that would be a good fit for you, feel free to PM or email the store (email@example.com) and we will be happy to make some suggestions. If you don’t need anything right now, we have electronic gift certificates you can also buy online and redeem for events when the time is right.
This may push us to completely change our business model, but with any luck these events will prove to be a chrysalis for an even more beautiful future.
At GeekLife we have always taken cleanliness seriously and disinfecting all surfaces has been a part of our closing routine since we opened. I wanted to let all of our amazing community know that we have increased the frequency and scope of our cleaning, including disinfecting tables between events.
GeekLife has always been about building community. Part of that includes protecting the most vulnerable among us. To that end, while we are not cancelling any events at this time, we are enacting social distancing measures and requiring that players wash their hands before game play (and of course if they use the restroom).
What this means for people using our play space is that we have reduced the number of available chairs to allow for a minimum of 3 feet between players. As a result, the store will currently only accommodate a maximum of 14 players at a time (see below for details about certain games).
•We are also asking anyone who feels sick to wait until they are symptom-free to come and play.
•If you do sneeze or cough, do so into a tissue (and immediately toss it) or into the crook of your elbow.
•Don’t touch your face.
•Wash you hands (we have some fun signs in the bathroom to help you count off 20 seconds).
We are also now happy to provide curbside pick up. We are working to put additional items in our online store for in-store pick up. But if you would prefer, you will also be able to call the store and we will bring your purchase out to you.
Another step we are taking is that we are currently preparing to offer weekday online Youth D&D in the event schools close and parents could use a couple of hours of the younger ones being entertained (while still getting in some socializing and math practice). Stay tuned for details on how to sign up.
And finally, we are all monitoring the situation closely and will follow any and all guidance from local health authorities.
The GeekLife Family
Game Specific Details:
•This will potentially affect MtG and Pokemon PreRelease events.
•For MtG, Wizards of the Coast has allowed stores to offer players the option of an “At-Home PreRelease.” So anyone who would like to will be able to pick up their PreRelease kit and take it home without having to participate in an in-store event.
•For role playing games, tables will be limited to a max of six players. This will be a hard and fast rule and seats will only be guaranteed if paid in advance.
As we reflect on the past year, we are so thankful to have each of you as a part of our amazing, growing community. Turning our thoughts toward the year ahead, we have some exciting events planned out and can’t wait to share them with you. In an effort to better streamline store operations and be best positioned to facilitate our expanding event schedule, we are going to shift our retail hours.
Effective January 6, our regular retail hours will be:
Tuesday – Friday 5pm-9pm
(retail will be open earlier and later for some events)
Keep an eye out in the next weeks and months as we announce even more special events outside of retail hours.
The first PreRelease event for this set will take place Friday, January 17 at 7:00PM.
PREVIOUSLY, ON THEROS…
To fight the sun god Heliod, the forge god Purphoros created a sword capable of damaging the divine. The two gods battled, disrupting the celestial resting place of an ancient and powerful hydra: Polukranos, World Eater. Enraged, the hydra stormed through the mortal realm of Theros until it was sealed by Heliod and the hunt god Nylea.
The Planeswalker Elspeth arrived in Theros during the climax of Heliod and Purphoros’s battle. She saw Purphoros’ sword flung from his hands, and planeswalked away with it. She returned to Theros fifteen years later and faced an angry Heliod. But the god regained his bearings and realized Elspeth could help him, so he reforged the sword into the spear Godsend. Wielding this weapon, Elspeth was able to defeat the newly awakened Polukranos.
Meanwhlie, the satyr Planeswalker Xenagos had hatched a plan to ascend to godhood. By cultivating belief and devotion among his followers, he was able to transcend mortality and join the other gods in their home of Nyx. Xenagos planned to use his new status for ill, so Elspeth vowed to stop him. She journeyed to Nyx and stabbed Xenagos with Godsend, destroying him once and for all.
Fearful of her power and knowledge of the multiverse, Heliod stabbed Elspeth with her very own weapon, which shattered afterwards. Dying, Elspeth’s soul became trapped in the Underworld of Erebos where it remains . . . for now.https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/feature/theros-beyond-death-story-cards-2019-12-16
