Wizards Play Network Core Level Store

It’s official!

GeekLife has reached Core level in the Wizards Play Network! This means that, starting in January, we will be hosting Friday Night Magic as well as be able to offer D&D Expeditions and all the fun those events entail.

Reaching Core so quickly is an amazing accomplishment and we couldn’t have done it without you!

As a thank you and to celebrate, we have some exciting promotions in the works for the rest of 2015, so watch this space!

Halloween ComicFest, WPN, Crafts, Calendar

Hi Everyone, Welcome to October!

GeekLife is proud to announce that we will be participating in Halloween ComicFest, which is a little like a miniature Free Comic Book Day: stop by the store on Halloween to pick up FREE copies of full size comics as well as special edition mini comics.

Additionally, now through November 10 you can enter the Greatest Halloween Costume Contest Ever for a chance to win a $500 shopping spree, $100 shopping spree or a variety of other awesome prizes.

The other exciting news is that we have finalized our application to join the Wizard Play Network (WPN) and are that much closer to being able to host Friday Night Magic and D&D Encounters. In the meantime, be sure to register to come play our Casual Magic Fridays, the more people we have playing, the quicker we can offer FNM.

Also in October we will be hosting our first craft make and take. Stay tuned for details, but it’s going to be fun!

Our calendar is up and on the website and we will be working to add all our events to Facebook as well, so check it out and let us know what you think!

2015 a recap (thus far)

We started the year looking for the ideal space for our brick and mortar. Several promising locations were investigated, but ultimately tabled for one reason or another.

February brought OwlCon and our first time back after Baby GeekLife joining us. The show went really well and we had a lot of support juggling convention responsibilities and mom duties. It really was a great start to the year.

We had really wanted to be open in time for Super Pi Day (March 14, 2015), but it wasn’t in the cards*. We continued to forge ahead though and we were in such heavy store opening mode, we were unable to commit to as many conventions this year.

As it was, we had already committed to our fourth Comicpalooza and we were happy we did. It was, yet again, an extremely fun convention and well received by all in attendance. After an amazing four days, it was full steam ahead on the storefront.

In August we secured a location and then it was a whirlwind of activity to get everything ready for opening.

On September 19, 2015 we held an invited preview party to kick off our soft opening. It was a lot of fun and got everyone excited for the new store. The next weekend we held a very successful Grand Opening celebration.

We don’t have any conventions scheduled for the rest of the year, but we look forward to our first Halloween Comic Fest and of course our very first Small Business Saturday.

We’re very excited to be able to share our vision of a geek club house with you and appreciate you taking this journey with us!

*but we think it was well worth the wait!

Porch Games (Satuday October 3)

We’re going to take advantage of this glorious Houston weather and play some card games on the front porch starting in the evening. Some stop by and get in on a round or two of Dalmuti, Fluxx or Gloom.

Feel free to bring your own snacks and beverages and make it an evening.

All set up at ApolloCon. Come play!

It’s time for your friendly, local, volunteer-run Sci Fi convention. Check out everything going on at ApolloCon this weekend at ApolloCon.org

Come play at OwlCon this weekend!

OwlCon starts tomorrow, Friday February 21, at 6pm and runs through Sunday February 23. Come play and while you’re here, stop by and see us, we miss your faces!

This convention is centrally located at Rice University, and very easy to get to from any part of town. It’s supposed to be a gorgeous weekend, but don’t think you’ll have to stay cooped up inside! Rice has loads of green-space to stretch your legs and enjoy the sunshine while you rest between games, crack open your new treasures or enjoy some tasty vittles while getting to know new friends.

2012 a recap

We made a lot of friends and had a blast with all of you at OwlCon (and yes, we’ll be there again in 2013, Mayan apocalypse notwithstanding).

Between conventions, a dedicated Corridor Rescue volunteer asked if we could help with their fundraiser. We were honored to assist and set up a booth with all proceeds being donated to this amazing organization.

It was great to see all of you at Comicpalozzza! We had so much fun that we are looking into confirming for 2013 and will keep you updated. Thanks again to ALL of our awesome volunteers, we couldn’t have done it without you.

After a little time out for family celebrations and a little rest following Comicpalooza, it was time to dive in to preparations for Apollocon. We had a ton of fun at Apollocon and can’t wait to see everyone again next year! We met so many awesome attendees and vendors, if you weren’t there, you really missed out. It was also a lot of fun putting together a DICEcream Sundae for the well-attended charity auction. Hope to see you next year!

We were more than happy to donate a GeekLife Treasure Chest containing a set of 7 polyhedral dice, Zombie Dice, Apples to Apples Dice Game, CubeFarm and a lego blind mini to Girls Rock Camp Houston‘s silent auction for their annual gala. And of course we are excited to hear that their Punk Rock Prom was a resounding success!

August brought the end of the busy summer of cons and our last booth of the year at Space City Con. Once again, all the awesome fans really amazed and impressed us. The event was full of energy and we can’t wait to see how far this con can go!

The end of August brought one more opportunity for us to give back. We not only donated a GeekLife Treasure Chest (with an Angry Birds acrylic tumbler and gift certificate), but we also participated in Corridor Rescue’s Spelling Bee (and even made it past the first round!).

The end of convention season brought a quiet fall, but we made a point to get out there with one last donation of the year: a fifty dollar gift certificate for the Phi Mu Foundation raffle held by the Delta Lamda chapter. The winner picked out the very new, very fun AT-AT Attack Star Wars Angry Birds.

As we begin 2013, we are very thankful for each and every one of you and look forward to seeing you again and meeting new friends at upcoming conventions!
