Tabletop Day and Free Comics!

In just a few short weeks, we will once again celebrate two of geekdom’s high holy days, International Tabeltop Day and Free Comic Book Day. Each event serves to celebrate all the ways these pursuits have enriched our lives.

Tabletop games bring people together, literally, in ways that few activities can rival. They challenge our mind, heart and spirit (and sometimes even our friendships -I’m looking at you, Diplomacy 😉 ).  Join us on Saturday, April 29 for a can’t-miss day of demos and organized play. Whether you’re an experienced gamer or just discovering all the joy this hobby can bring, we will have something for you. Keep an eye out here and on our Facebook page as we announce more details in the next few days.

Free Comic Book Day follows close on the heels of ITTD. Exactly as the name implies, this is your chance to get some really great comics for absolutely free. Join us on Saturday, May 6 and let us introduce you to comics OR to your new favorite. We’ll have great new comics for all ages and interests, plus fun activities, specials and giveaways. Comics are a fantastic way to inspire young readers not just to read but to WANT to read. Rooted in the dawn of mass printing, comics have long been a stalwart of American storytelling and at GeekLife, we take great pride in curating a widely diverse selection of these voices.

We can’t wait to see you at these exciting events!

Wizards Play Network Core Level Store

It’s official!

GeekLife has reached Core level in the Wizards Play Network! This means that, starting in January, we will be hosting Friday Night Magic as well as be able to offer D&D Expeditions and all the fun those events entail.

Reaching Core so quickly is an amazing accomplishment and we couldn’t have done it without you!

As a thank you and to celebrate, we have some exciting promotions in the works for the rest of 2015, so watch this space!

2015 a recap (thus far)

We started the year looking for the ideal space for our brick and mortar. Several promising locations were investigated, but ultimately tabled for one reason or another.

February brought OwlCon and our first time back after Baby GeekLife joining us. The show went really well and we had a lot of support juggling convention responsibilities and mom duties. It really was a great start to the year.

We had really wanted to be open in time for Super Pi Day (March 14, 2015), but it wasn’t in the cards*. We continued to forge ahead though and we were in such heavy store opening mode, we were unable to commit to as many conventions this year.

As it was, we had already committed to our fourth Comicpalooza and we were happy we did. It was, yet again, an extremely fun convention and well received by all in attendance. After an amazing four days, it was full steam ahead on the storefront.

In August we secured a location and then it was a whirlwind of activity to get everything ready for opening.

On September 19, 2015 we held an invited preview party to kick off our soft opening. It was a lot of fun and got everyone excited for the new store. The next weekend we held a very successful Grand Opening celebration.

We don’t have any conventions scheduled for the rest of the year, but we look forward to our first Halloween Comic Fest and of course our very first Small Business Saturday.

We’re very excited to be able to share our vision of a geek club house with you and appreciate you taking this journey with us!

*but we think it was well worth the wait!

Indie Publisher Shout Out

Our friends at Epic Age Media have brought to our attention that not only do they have Galaxy Prime, “a roleplaying game for the cinematic scifi fan (available in PDF form here),” but a selection of other RPG, card and board games -including a pocket sized dungeon adventure!

Be sure to check them out.

Hit us up in the comments if you’d like to see these games at our booth (and eventually in the store) and we’ll see if we can’t make that happen.
