2013 a recap

We once again started off the year at OwlCon (phew, no apocalypse!) and once again had a blast seeing all of our friends and making new ones.

The spring saw us at the vintage/maker-oriented Pop Shop Houston along with several of our vendor friends. It was a beautiful weekend and lots of fun. We quickly followed that with our second time out at Comicpalooza. It was a remarkable show and we had a great weekend.

In June we did a small little Men’s Pop Shop in The Heights. It was overall a good weekend with lots of new faces.

Unfortunately this year we had a scheduling conflict with ApolloCon and weren’t able to make it, but we hope to be able to do so next year.

As the summer drew to a close, we wrapped it up with our second time out at Space City Con. The new location in West Chase was definitely an improvement over the crowded Galleria and everyone seemed to have a good time. The gaming was a little off set from the rest of the convention, so we loaded up a tray with dice and a few other small items and walked the game floor selling. It was well received and a lot of fun, too.

The fall started quite, but ended with a busy November. We did both the Gulf Coast Toy Show and Pop Shop Houston. We had a good time at both and met lots of new people.

It was another fun filled year of growth for GeekLife and we’re excited to see what the next year brings. Thanks for being a part of it!

For a good cause. ..

2012 a recap

We made a lot of friends and had a blast with all of you at OwlCon (and yes, we’ll be there again in 2013, Mayan apocalypse notwithstanding).

Between conventions, a dedicated Corridor Rescue volunteer asked if we could help with their fundraiser. We were honored to assist and set up a booth with all proceeds being donated to this amazing organization.

It was great to see all of you at Comicpalozzza! We had so much fun that we are looking into confirming for 2013 and will keep you updated. Thanks again to ALL of our awesome volunteers, we couldn’t have done it without you.

After a little time out for family celebrations and a little rest following Comicpalooza, it was time to dive in to preparations for Apollocon. We had a ton of fun at Apollocon and can’t wait to see everyone again next year! We met so many awesome attendees and vendors, if you weren’t there, you really missed out. It was also a lot of fun putting together a DICEcream Sundae for the well-attended charity auction. Hope to see you next year!

We were more than happy to donate a GeekLife Treasure Chest containing a set of 7 polyhedral dice, Zombie Dice, Apples to Apples Dice Game, CubeFarm and a lego blind mini to Girls Rock Camp Houston‘s silent auction for their annual gala. And of course we are excited to hear that their Punk Rock Prom was a resounding success!

August brought the end of the busy summer of cons and our last booth of the year at Space City Con. Once again, all the awesome fans really amazed and impressed us. The event was full of energy and we can’t wait to see how far this con can go!

The end of August brought one more opportunity for us to give back. We not only donated a GeekLife Treasure Chest (with an Angry Birds acrylic tumbler and gift certificate), but we also participated in Corridor Rescue’s Spelling Bee (and even made it past the first round!).

The end of convention season brought a quiet fall, but we made a point to get out there with one last donation of the year: a fifty dollar gift certificate for the Phi Mu Foundation raffle held by the Delta Lamda chapter. The winner picked out the very new, very fun AT-AT Attack Star Wars Angry Birds.

AT-AT Attack Angry Birds Star Wars game

As we begin 2013, we are very thankful for each and every one of you and look forward to seeing you again and meeting new friends at upcoming conventions!

Space City Con

We’re getting very excited for SpaceCityCon and just placed our order!

Here is a sneak peek at just a few of the goodies we have in store for you:

Also new for SpaceCityCon: lots more dice, artist designed play mats, Pathfinder supplements, Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards, specialty dice cups, and LOTS of Steve Jackson gear!

You spoke and we listened, so stop by our booth and find just what you’re looking for.

And, as always, we have a prime selection of vintage figures, toys and games.

Indie Publisher Shout Out

Our friends at Epic Age Media have brought to our attention that not only do they have Galaxy Prime, “a roleplaying game for the cinematic scifi fan (available in PDF form here),” but a selection of other RPG, card and board games -including a pocket sized dungeon adventure!

Be sure to check them out.

Hit us up in the comments if you’d like to see these games at our booth (and eventually in the store) and we’ll see if we can’t make that happen.
